Times Are A’Changing At MIC

The headline from the Moleside Investors Club’s August meeting certainly reflects the very welcome climb on the club’s performance chart but it also refers to how the MIC is now developing to address the challenges and seize the opportunities presented by today’s market conditions. At the monthly meeting MIC Chairman Kris Nasta detailed the club’s plan as it evolves both to meet current circumstances and to enhance the role that all members can play in the group’s future success.

But first the month’s perfomance indicators.

After its dramatic decline since it’s peak in September 2021 – in line with most markets around the world – the MIC performance indicator is now recording its first clear upward movement in 4 months .Represented by the blue line on our chart the club’s portfolio it is still outperforming its benchmarks – maintaining its lead over the red of the FTSE All Share and the grey of the AIM Index of smaller companies.

The challenge always facing investors is how to interpret present data.  No doubt there are many Moleside members who must have been feeling for sometime that there is very little good about what has happened to their portfolio in recent months.  But there is at least one in the club who has seen the reduced unit value as a clear opportunity to increase his holding.  And the charts’ recent upward swing is a reminder that successful investment is always a question of getting the timing right.

New Interest always welcomed
Any Moleside members who might be interested in joining the Investment Club are welcome to request a chance to sit in on a meeting and get an initial taste of how it operates. The Club meets monthly on the third Tuesday and business is conducted in a carefully constituted way almost always focusing on individual shares rather than funds.

Members take responsibility for making regular reports and recommendations on different market sectors or specific equities to which they give particular attention. As we always have to be reminded in financial circles past performance is no guarantee of what will happen in the future – but is it not just that reality that makes involvement in the group so absorbing?
