What’s 30 years old and getting younger?. The answer – Moleside Probus. Many of our recent recruits now see membership of Moleside as an ideal ingredient to include in their wider retirement plans. So as we gathered in July to celebrate the first three decades of our Cobham based club we are delighted to confirm that the average age of our membership is going steadily downwards..
With Paul TIller who put the special occasion together as our MC, the hospitality of the RAC’s Surrey Clubhouse provided an ideal location for the 90 or so of us from all over our corner of the county to enjoy acknowledging the friends that Moleside continues to help us make as our club evolves.
Making our way to our tables we were delighted to have with us Paul Bryant and John Hayes, founder members from 1993, both of them going on later to serve as club Chairman and help establish the informal tone we greatly appreciate within our wide programme of activities.
In proposing the toast to our founders current Chairman Paul Walker went on to thank our wives and partners who have been central from the beginning to Moleside’s family atmosphere and who are part of and support so much of what the club does.
Responding on behalf of the ladies Rosemary Manners acknowledged that, whilst it was wonderful for wives and partners to have Moleside keeping their other halves busy and engaged, what was especially appreciated were the many events, holidays and activities in which the ladies were always involved.
Glasses were raised to Moleside’s next 30 years and the programme concluded with a rousing performance from the string quartet ZHL who’s athletic playlist includes work by Mozart, Pachelbel and Holst.
Our thanks to them, to Paul for organising such a tremendous occasion and to Margaret Arnott, John Brice and Mike Warnock who helped with the photographs.
And it was Mike who captured a real sense of what ZHL brought to the party with his short video clip of the quartet in action giving us Offenbach’s Can Can from Orpheus in the Underworld.
