Following the successful first meeting of the reborn Moleside Wine Club in August 2024 they now meet regularly in Churchgate House with an evolving format.
For the inaugural meeting each of those attending had brought a bottle. Everyone was given the opportunity to describe the grapes and the wine, why they liked it, how much it cost and where it came from. By the group’s second meeting members were already introducing extra features: blind tastings, Would I lie to You? challenges – all adding to the enjoyment and pleasure of investigating the world of wine together.

David T had already captured the warm hearted but serious enthusiasm to share knowledge in his report of the inaugural meeting.
” There were jeers if an offering felt too cheap, incredulity if it cost too much and occasional claims were made to be able to buy the wine cheaper elsewhere.
Prices ranged from £7 to £14, one white and the rest red and they came from New Zealand, Italy, Spain, France and California. Australia was left out in the cold.”
“One member, who shall be nameless, brought four drinkers but only one bottle of wine. There is no doubt a rule in the Constitution which considers that unsporting, but there was more than enough for all to taste.”
After much learned slurping, lots of laughter and wise comment, each meeting choses a Wine of the Month – which invariably sells out at local suppliers.
Try finding the club’s first choice now. Very likely it will have gone up in price.

The only way to stay in touch with what fellow Molesders are currently really rating is to make sure you attend the next Wine Group meeting yourself.
You’ll be most welcome.
